This week we invited some friends out for supper to thank them for helping out last October. We set up the Fondue since we haven’t done that in a while and it’s a lot of fun. You can eat while you talk and not stuff yourself like crazy. The challenge was dessert because one of your friends is living gluten free.

Sometimes a recipe asks for only half of the egg, either egg white or egg yolk. That’s ok if it’s only one but if you end up with a lot then you run into a problem. I already had a solution for the egg yolk: chocolate pudding. But what does a girl do if you have a lot of egg whites left over?
I am not sure if you know this, but I grew up in the GDR, behind the Iron Curtain so to speak. It were brief 5 years but a culture doesn’t simply disappear, it changes slowly. Yesterday I worked on another cake experiment. Ok, most of my baking is an experiment because most of it never happened in my kitchen before. But, this one was a bit different because the recipes was talking about a big torte and I wanted to make little ones. So, I wasn’t sure if it would work the way I envisioned it nor how much I would get out of it. The result was a success.
