Spitzkuchen

I like to try thing that are new to me.

First of all, Thursdays are really busy with me because I teach German in the evening. As a result, I have little time for baking or for posting. Yesterday just didn’t work out but you’ll get something really old today.

Old as in traditional of course. The thing though is, I tried to get some more information about this particular Christmas item but couldn’t really find anything. As far as I can tell this is a variation of gingerbread but different to the one you can find on this blog.

Homemade Goldfish Crackers + DIY cookie cutter

Cheesy fishies

I wish I would be the genius behind this, unfortunately I am not. *boohoo* I am not even sure how I came about this but I think it was featured on Freshly Pressed here at WordPress. Or I stumbled upon it like I tend to: I click a link which leads me to another and another and another. You get the idea, eh? So when I saw it at Miss Anthropist’s Kitchen (click here) and Smitten Kitchen (click here) I was blown away. You can make your own crackers? Heck ya! Especially when you look for a little snack for 2-3 year olds at Sunday school which is not Tim Hortons or muffins (cause they had those last time). Plus, it totally fit with the theme we discussed.

Cake Pops

A week ago I was making a cake for my sister in law’s baby shower. Unfortunately the cake broke and I was left with various pieces and no way to fix it. Reason for that “disaster” was too much shortening. I still have to get used to the measuring over here and when the recipe is asking for 1/3 cup oft shortening I shouldn’t use 3/4.
