Sandwich Cookies close up

I was asked to make a dainty tray for church and so I am thinking “What to do?” First I thought Whoopie Pies because that was on my mind for a while. But I also wanted to make a mix of things, not just one. Besides, I had some things left over.

Book Review: “Lidia’s Favorite Recipes” and Basic Potato Gnocchi

DSC_2928

There is a stack of books on my kitchen counter that I wanted to review. Lidia Matticchio Bastianich and Tanya Bastianich Manuali’s “Lidia’s Favorite Recipes – 100 Foolproof Italian Dishes, from Basic Sauces to Irresistible Entrées” was one of them. I quickly skipped through the book to find a recipe I could make and ended up with Basic Potato Gnocchi. Who doesn’t like gnocchi?

Weckman – A St.Martin’s Tradition

On November the 11th we celebrate St.Martin’s Day in some parts of Germany. It’s a celebration about sharing and being a role model to other people, showing kindness even though one doesn’t have much him-/herself. As most celebrations, this days also has it’s culinary specialties and the Weckmänner are one of it.

Pumpkin Spice Autumn Sandwich Cookies

The other day I thought about what to make for Autumn. My mind wandered around my kitchen and what type of tools and things I have there. I know there a bunch of things for Halloween, but I am not there yet. However, I wanted to make something, something that’s not pie for that matter. Finally, I remember that I have leave cookie cutters, as well as a pumpkin and acorn. They are originally for pie but great for cookies too. Now all that I had to decide for was a recipe.

Peanut Butter Cookies

When most people think about North America/USA/Canada and cookies they think Chocolate Chip Cookies. I love them myself but I also love variety, so Peanut Butter Cookies seem to be a good way to switch it up. Unless you are allergic to peanuts, in that case you should stay away from them. Fortunately, neither am I not my husband allergic and so I baked some last night. My husband is a little cookie monster, having cookies in the cookie jar is a must. I promised for ages to make some more but never had the time.

Dora the Explorer and Diego Cookies

I was asked the other day to make some Dora and Diego cookies, the main characters of the “Dora the Explorer” TV cartoon. Sugar cookies and Royal icing here I come! This was something new for me because I mostly do regular cookies, desserts and cakes, not so much decorated cookies. But I took on the challenge and I think it turned out pretty good. Sure, there are those cookie magicians who can do crazy things with Royal Icing and they would have done a better job. Yet, I think I did the best I can and the characters are recognizable.
