Snow White Cake

Cake, cherries, butter creme and chocolate equals yummy.

Another one of those family recipes, this time from my aunt. Although I am fairly certain she got it from grandma. Yes, my grandmother is a walking baking (and cook) book.

Strawberry Torte

Great dessert for summer afternoons

Summer means strawberries and strawberries mean either eat them as you pick them or make a torte. This is a personal favourite of mine and I associate this torte with family get-togethers and fun.  It is easy to make and really light, in my opinion. Using fresh strawberries for this recipe is almost a must.

Easter Lamb

German Easter Lamb
(picture taken from here )
The Easter Lamb is a family tradition back home, I guess not just with my family but with many German families.

Banana Bread

This is a husband favourite. He was also the one who provided me with the recipe.

Banana bread:

– 3-4 ripe bananas
– 80g butter
– 200g sugar
– 1 egg
– 1 tsp vanilla
– 1 tsp baking soda
– salt
– 180g flour

Cream butter and sugar and add vanilla. Mash your bananas and add them together with the egg to the butter/sugar mixtures. Sift flour and baking soda together and add to the batter.

Grease your loaf pan, dust it with flour and fill with batter. Bake at 175°C for one hour. You might want to cover the top with foil for the last bit otherwise it might burn. Remove from pan, let cool and dust with icing sugar. I should try chocolate at some point. Chocolate glaze makes things better.

Sorry, no picture at this point.

Biscuit Roll (Jelly Roll)

Biscuit makes a very fluffy, light cake and is perfect for a cake base. It is easy to bake and very yummy. I think North American sponge cake is similar to it, though I haven’t done that yet. This was an attempt the other day because I was looking for something to celebrate a birthday at work. So, I figured I try something new and voila, it worked perfectly.

Cake Pops

A week ago I was making a cake for my sister in law’s baby shower. Unfortunately the cake broke and I was left with various pieces and no way to fix it. Reason for that “disaster” was too much shortening. I still have to get used to the measuring over here and when the recipe is asking for 1/3 cup oft shortening I shouldn’t use 3/4.

Apple Pie

The most North American dessert I can think of: Apple pie. This was a real challenge as well because I made the dough myself. I’ve seen the pre-made shells at the store but I feel like it’s not genuine if I don’t make it myself. I don’t even use cake mixes (except for buttermilk pancakes, I should look for a good recipe).

Apple Muffins

Fall is a great season because you can do so many exciting things with apples. I was born in October and I love apples, naturally, I had to make some apples muffins.
