Applesauce Muffins

It’s alsmost the first day of fall but frankly, I have been in fall mode for at least a week. I love this season because I was born in October and falling leaves, changing colour, and the slightly cool and crisp air with some sunshine just get to me. Apples of course play a big role in fall so here we go with another apple recipe.

Macha and Lime Macarons

Book Review: “Tortillas to the Rescue” and Apple Cinnamon Tortilla Pockets

A while ago I received Tortillas to the Rescue, which was written by Jessica Harlan. Now, I like tortillas or wraps as much as anyone else, but I had no clue that you can write a cook book about it. Most intriguing for me was the Sweet Endings section. You can use tortillas for dessert? Yes please!

Zucchini Lime Cake

Chocolate Macarons

Oh boy, here we go. Macarons, not the ones with coconut, are the new cupcakes/cake pops. Everyone seems to go crazy over them, or it’s just my imagination. As far as I understand it they have been around for ages but became fashionable in North American a while ago. Since everyone is so excited about them I thought I give it a try.

Chocolate Chip Cookies – Take Two

It’s my nephews 2nd birthday this weekend and his mother asked me to make Chocolate Chip Cookies for his party because they will do a Sesame Street party. Clearly the Cookie monster will show up and demand some cookies. 😉 So here I am, making cookies.

Mandarin Whipping Creme Torte

Yesterday I worked on another cake experiment. Ok, most of my baking is an experiment because most of it never happened in my kitchen before. But, this one was a bit different because the recipes was talking about a big torte and I wanted to make little ones. So, I wasn’t sure if it would work the way I envisioned it nor how much I would get out of it. The result was a success.

Nectarine Biscuit Cake

By now you are, hopefully, aware that I am of German background. Living in Canada can be a challenge sometimes, especially when it comes to cooking and baking. On the other hand, it is nice to see that you can surprise people with things that you are natural to you, like certain dishes. The past weeks I have become a part of a German-Canadian Baking and Cooking Club and as such I am preparing for a baking class.

Sourdough Bread with Pumpkin Seeds

I miss bread, real bread, with a crust, and with a bite. This is one of those food differences that most Germany will lament because it’s so encoded in our DNA. Dark bread, black bread, gray bread, buns, don’t forget the buns with like pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, mixed seeds. The texture of fluffy bread that still takes some effort to chew.
