Food photos from my Germany trip

I spent 3.5 months in Germany, from October 2014 to mid January 2015. I also took a trip to Graz, Austria and Prague, Czech Republic. The following pictures were taken during that time, all with my smart phone camera. As a result, some pictures are not too well light, over exposed due to the flash, or grainy due to the lack of light. I was able to get some nice pictures but not all are awesome. Yet, I felt I should show them anyway, it was a fun trip with awesome food after all.

Pumpkin Cinnamon Buns

Smitten Kitchen had a wonderful idea: Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls. Of course I had to try that right away, it’s just the right combination. So off to the Farmers Market I go to see that I can buy a nice Red Kuri pumpkin. That’s the one we would use for most of our dishes so I thought it would be good for the buns as well.

Zucchini Lime Cake

Oh, there are so many things to do with zucchini: grill it, put it in salad, bake with it. I decided for the latter this time. But I didn’t want to make a chocolate cake because that seems to be regular thing to do. Facebook to the rescue!

Home-made Pizza

My husband is very particular about his pizza. He hates it when there is almost nothing on there and that’s why he rarely eats pizza out or orders it. A classic Italian pizza would never float his boat and I’m almost certain he would starve in Italy. The only good pizza for him is the one he makes himself. Often that involves a pizza crust bought at the store but this time I was able to convince him I could make that myself. I don’t need those additives that are very likely in them (though I honestly never check, so I am making assumptions here).

Eclairs with Raspberry Cream

Delicious eclair with even better cream filling.

Before I get started: there is a Giveaway on this blog. Check it out: Easter Giveaway!

Most of my baking happens because I want to bring something to a party or meeting. I ponder for a while what I should make and usually find something because I have the ingredients or because it goes with the theme. Most of the time I have never made the recipe before, I like to venture into the unknown and hope it will work out in time.

Cinnamon Buns

My father-in-law loves these.

These cinnamon buns are made from a special recipe. Not the ingredients are special, but where the recipe comes from. Last year around fall I started working at a bistro and they sold cinnamon buns, cinnamon buns with raisin and lemon buns. They were made freshly every morning and were huge, like three times the size you see in the picture. The woman who made them is a professional baker and pastry chef. She also made fudge once every two weeks. At some point she asked me if I would do a morning shift or two so that she could have a day off.
