One of my first baking experiences, besides a simple cake, were muffins. I love muffins! They are simple and versatile and fun! Of course there is this rivalry with Cupcakes, but often I find cupcakes too sweet. Muffins on the other hand can be savoury as well. This recipe isn’t, but it’s on my “Baking Bucket List” to make a savoury muffin one day.

Sometimes it needs only one item or ingredients to come up with something quite delicious. That exact same thing happened to me the other day, for breakfast, on a Saturday. Simple things make life wonderful.
Board Meetings from work are always a great excuse to bake because those meetings take a whole day and people come in from quite a distance and like to have a second breakfast. What is not eaten in the morning will be eaten later in the day.
When we have meetings I like to give people two sort of muffins. That way you barely can go wrong and people usually like one or the other. Since I had some bananas in my freezer I decided to use them.
If you’ve been to the Farmers Market in Saskatoon before you probably know of Bill and Giuseppi’s. They have the best lemonade by far in town and serve quiche, burgers, sandwiches and soup. Bill opened his new restaurant this past Saturday, September 8th on 20th Street and we went to check it out.
What do you do when you have a lot of buttermilk left over but no clue how to use it? You ask Facebook of course, or rather you friends on Facebook. That’s how I came across this recipe, which was generously provided by my friend Helene.
Two days ago I posted about French Toast, which is awesome for breakfast, just like Waffles or Pancakes are awesome for breakfast. But we all know we don’t have the time to make those delicious breakfast options every day. (If anyone out there does…can you please come to my house?) So, most people will have toast, or cereal of granola to start their day. There are thousands of options at the grocery to choose from, especially colourful or flavourful ones for the kids among you. However, it can get boring after a while and then it’s a great idea to make some for you own.
Today is my half marathon race day, thus I am sticking to my regular breakfast. However, once in a while we do “fancy” thing, e.g. breakfast that takes a tiny bit more time and preparation than pouring cereal into a bowl. Something like pancakes, waffles, and French toast. Though it takes a bit longer, at least French toast is fairly simple to make.
The last week it was fairly warm over here in Saskatoon. In fact, it was so warm that I kept the window open over night. For some reason or another that makes me sleep better and I am much more refreshed in the morning. As a result, I got up at 6 a.m. (for some that is early, for others it’s late) and made pancakes from scratch. For some reason I thought pancakes are naturally made with buttermilk. When looking in my Canadian Cook Book though there was no Buttermilk Pancake recipes to be found.
What is a good breakfast muffin? One that is not too sweet but also not too wacky, like mushroom or garlic muffins? Browsing through my muffin cook book I stumbled upon the Seed Muffin with sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds. We all know that seeds contain good oils that the body needs, so I thought this would be great to kick off the day.
