Changes and Plans for 2012

Have a good new year!
via

So I was looking at my blog and notices that the menu starts to get a bit cluttered. Originally, I just planned on having a baking blog, now I realize that that is foolish. I am not a SHAM, I don’t have kids to feed or their classmates to feed. As a result I can not possibly bake every day, not even every other day. I wish I could, there are enough recipes out there to try. I also don’t come up with my own recipes (yet) or have a small business so that I can post almost every day.

Lets face it: I am just a regular girl, with a regular job and regular life that permits me once in a while to go nuts in my little kitchen. But baking every is just not possible, which means that I can’t have a post for you every day or even every other day.

On the other side, I do cook as well for me and hubby. As a result I will include more of the cooking we do in the house here on the website. I picked up on Bento boxes, so you should look out for those.

As a result there will be some little changes on the menu bar and shifts so that you will be able to access the content easier. I am also hoping to put up a banner soon. I have been thinking about this before but haven’t come up with a concept yet.

Otherwise I was thinking on having themed months and I would start off with Bread January, which would includes bread and buns. I am not sure what to do for the rest of the 11 months. If you have any suggestions, please leave comments below.

Food from our Vancouver trip

I’ve already showed you what we had at the German Christmas Market and I must say that was delicious. However, that was not the only food we had on the Vancouver trip of course. Eating out on trips is common and I enjoyed the things we had. Of course my husband was rather annoyed with me taking pictures. There goes the foodie in me.

There are no culinary surprises I can tell you that, but  it was certainly delicious.

Christmas Dinner

Via

I hope you all had a good Christmas with your family, or, if you are apart from them (for whatever reason) you had a good day nevertheless. Remember, home is where the heart is and even though if you are apart from your family, in your heart they are always with you.

Christmas is decoration, gifts, singing, family and (sometimes above all else) food. Many family have a traditional Christmas food they will put on and where else could you tell the cultural difference better than on the table?

Now, this is a general observation from what I have experienced. By all means, this does not mean that every family is doing this, so I am talking generalizations. If your family is doing something totally different: please do share.

Christmas Market Food

My husband and I made it safely to Vancouver, that was a 17 hour trip in total. First through Llyodminster, then Edmonton, through Jasper and then a night over at Valemont. From there we went through Kamloops and all the way to Vancouver. After a little break at the Bed & Breakfast we went over to the German Christmas Market Read the rest of this entry

That little bit of fame and a vacation

So, I was on TV, early in the morning. Ok, it was 8.17 a.m. so still manageable but nevertheless, I was on TV. Thank you CTV for having me, it was so much fun and the host Chris made me feel comfortable. Of course I was quite nervous, never done anything like this and now what? But it worked out fine and though there is room for improvement it surely wasn’t too bad. However, 4 min are just too short.

If you would like to see the clip, go to CTV Morning Live and look for the “Gingerbread with Andrea MacLeod” clip on the right hand side. I am not sure how long it will be up there, maybe another day or two. I am hoping to get a more stable version up of course (all right are with CTV Saskatoon obviously).

Thank you to all the people who stopped by and check my page. I certainly appreciate your interest. I also have 30 fans on Facebook, which is not all too much compared to other pages, but really nice. Especially since some of those people are not friends or family but complete strangers that take interest in what I do. Of course the same thanks needs to go out to my blog followers here on WordPress. Thank you!

I am sure you know yourself: it’s Christmas time, which means of course baking and cooking but also time for holidays/vacations. That’s what me and my husband will do. Tomorrow we will leave for Vancouver and we won’t be back until the 31st.

I have no recipes or posts pre-written so there will be a little drought here on the blog. However, I hope to upload some pictures from the German Christmas Market with it’s delicious food. So watch out for that.

In the new year I hope to get back to baking asap of course, I should also throw in some cooking I was thinking.

Questions to all: What is your favourite baking/cooking recipe?

Share it here on the comments or post it on Facebook and I will give it a try. I like to try new things and though this blog is here to show off German and North American recipes I certainly would love to try everything else you think is good.

I wish you all Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanuka or whatever you might be celebrating and a Good New Year. Take care and hope to see you back soon.

Happy baking!

Watch out – me on TV

As usual I don’t do much over the weekend though I am baking, things I’ve already made. So there is nothing new on that front.

However, I am preparing to be on TV tomorrow. Basically, me on CTV Saskatoon, the local news broadcaster. They have a Morning Show Live and asked me to come in to show off how to make a gingerbread house. 4 minutes of fame for me, and that is a very short time but I am very happy they asked me.

So, if you are in Saskatoon, turn on your TV at around 8.15 a.m. If you are not in Saskatoon then you can check the show at their website: CTV Morning Show Live.

I will see that I can get a copy of the broadcast to put it up here so that people who couldn’t see it (e.g. those who work).  Or rather for those who do not live in the beautiful country, e.g. my whole family back home in Germany.

I know mom is already pretty proud and I bet grandma is too. It is her recipe after all so credits need to go to her. Many of the recipes on this blog are a family recipe from either side of the family. My grandmothers had and still have a pretty big influence on my baking and cooking. Also my aunts are awesome in the kitchen and shared their wisdom with me. So, thank you to the women in my family for teaching me a thing or two.

Have a good day, enjoy your Sunday, and if you have 4 min tomorrow morning then turn on your TV or go online. If you can’t be sure to check back later because I will upload the clip as soon as I can.

Thank you and happy baking.

Saskatoon Farmers Market

Not overly crowded, but it was cold that day.

As you figured by now I don’t post over the weekend. I probably would have time to do so, but sometimes I just can’t be bothered. Or I am so busy with things that I don’t have time. Saturdays have a certain routine for us. Usually I talk to my mother in Germany, then we go to the Farmers Market, after that we either go grocery shopping or swimming, though swimming hasn’t happen in a long while.

I like Farmers Markets and the one in Saskatoon is certainly a little jewel.

The “No baking” post

I would love to have this one.

I wanted to tell you what you need to make a gingerbread house and how you would go about this. But apparently my computer here doesn’t like my flash drive. Now that was a first so I am without pictures and there is no point in posting a “how to” without pictures. As a result you get a post without baking, well, maybe some tips that I can think of. On the other hand, I can talk about some random things, like that apron.

Thank you

Here comes a short intermission into the Christmas Cookie bake off, which has been going on since last Saturday and is quite a success I would say.

I started this blog in May of this year and I already got over 1000 views, which means not just my friends check this page but also their friends and complete strangers. But of course mainly friends and family looked at my recipes in the beginning. My sister-in-law Jennifer was also the first one to leave a comment. Thank you Jenn, that was thoughtful of you.

The first comment from someone I didn’t know was by A Hint of Garlic, who are a couple from the UK. I don’t really follow their blog which has something to do with the way the Follow Blog thing is set up here at WordPress. I should try to do that though. So thank you to A hint of garlic to leave a comment, maybe they tried to make the Hazelnut Chocolate Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Icing.

Next I would like to thank Jennifer from Jennifer Screams and the girl from Savory Simple. Both liked my post about the Cinnamon Buns and where the first ones to like a post.

The last thank you goes to Indya from Indyasquarepants, who was the first to re-blog on of my posts. Thank you Indya, I feel very honoured that you re-blogged me.

Of course a big thanks to the family and friends who read this too. Please recommend the blog to others, I might have the recipe they are looking for. Also a big thanks to those random people who step by: analogeejumi, Lesley Carter, and Happiness Stan who liked the post about Photography – Light; and A Cornishman Cooks, as well as Nissi, who both liked the Coconut Cookies.

I wish everyone a good day. Happy Thanksgiving to those in the States. Happy Thursday to everyone else.

Love, Andrea

Welcome

I thought I separate my baking and cooking from my regular blog so I can keep track of it.

My original blog is: http://lachenannun.blogspot.com

There you will find thoughts on my life in Canada, the differences and joys I encounter and how I am coping with the whole thing.

Soon you will find German and North American recipes here and how I am baking through it all.

I am always happy to hear comments, suggestions and whatever else you might want to tell me.

Andrea
