Raspberry Cupcakes with Raspberry Cream

Raspberry, more Raspberry and some more Raspberry.

I think I said it before, most of my backing happens because of some sort of gather, like a potluck, or because I have something left over and need to use it. Last Wednesday was a potluck and I had something left over from previously baking. As a result these lovely cupcakes were created and I changed the recipe a bit. Cutting cupcakes in half just seemed bit weird to me.

Guinness Brownies

Best Brownies ever.

Since I didn’t do posts leading towards St.Patrick’s Day I will do follow up posts. How about that? That way I can present you a couple of nice Irish recipes that you can use next year yourself. For some reason I am not one of those bloggers who will do their baking for holiday X three or four weeks before. Maybe a week before it happens, if you are lucky. (Unless it’s Christmas, that’s different.)

Easter Giveaway: And the Winner is…

The Prize: Wilton Easter/Spring Cookie Cutter Sets

Over the last week this blog had a Easter Giveaway. It was nothing major big like a KitchenAid mixer (I wish) but for the beginning it was something. Two sets of Wilton Easter themed cookie cutters were up to be won. All you had to do was leave a comment underneath the post, telling me what your favourite Easter treat was. You had and additional chance if you liked the Baking in Saskatoon Facebook page.

The week is over and the results are in and there were 22 comments. Thank you! This means a lot to me.

As previously said, Random.org will select a winner.

And the Winner is: #7 Lene

Please contact me via Email to claim your prize withing the next 48 hours. Should the winner failed to do so, another winner will be picked by Random.org.

Thank you, again, to everyone who left a comment. It was nice to see what people like for Easter. I am a total chocolate lover and so chocolate eggs, preferably filled with something (like nougat cream) will send me to heaven. Especially these ones are what I am looking forward to in my Easter Basket.

Very lecker, I mean, delicious. Via

Guinness Cupcakes with Whisky Ganache and Baileys Frosting

In honour of St. Patrick.

Alright, there is one more day for the Easter Giveaway. Submissions end Sunday at midnight Saskatchewan time.

It is St. Patrick’s Day so you must wear green. Yes, it’s required to wear some sort of green on this very special day, especially when you lived in Ireland at some point or another. This is the case for me, I spent 6 months in Northern Ireland, which is basically Ireland. It was a great time and I enjoyed it much and learned from the people. I was lucky enough to catch a Patty’s Day in Derry, which was really fun. All the Irish are out and about (which they usually are anyway), wearing their green and having their pint.

Lalaloopsy Cake Pops & Confetti Cake

Lalaloopsy character cake pops.

Again, before I start, there is a Giveaway on this blog. Check out the Easter Giveaway. Thank you for stepping by.

Now to this post: I am a big fan of cake pops, it is a lovely idea for any party because you can customize them fairly easy. The first time I saw them was on the front cover of a Betty Crockers magazine, Halloween pops by Bakerella. (Find her page here.) Since then I am hocked and I make them whenever it seems suitable, like appreciating dads on Father day.

Eclairs with Raspberry Cream

Delicious eclair with even better cream filling.

Before I get started: there is a Giveaway on this blog. Check it out: Easter Giveaway!

Most of my baking happens because I want to bring something to a party or meeting. I ponder for a while what I should make and usually find something because I have the ingredients or because it goes with the theme. Most of the time I have never made the recipe before, I like to venture into the unknown and hope it will work out in time.

Easter Giveaway

I am so excited…

Spring and Easter cookies.

First of all, my Facebook page (have a look here) has over 50 Likes. *awww* I barely can contain my excitement. I know that compared to other pages it’s rather low. But considering I didn’t start this too long ago it’s big news for me and it also means I hit a personal landmark. A while back I was thinking I should do something for my 50th Like and well, here we are.

Royal Icing is something I need to work on.

So, I am very excited to announce the First Baking in Saskatoon Giveaway. There were several options I had in my mind and some of them were nice but not really useful for a giveaway. Especially since I am going to make this internationally. Yes, you read that right. If you are from the other side of the world you are eligible to win. (I find it a bit frustrating when you see nice giveaways online but you can’t enter because it’s only for US residents. That’s annoying when you are from Europe but plain frustrating when you are sitting the neighbouring country.)

So cute.

Keep in mind, this is my first giveaway and I am, by no means, one of those big blogs that get nice big stuff from big companies.

This is an Easter Giveway and you can win these two lovely sets of Wilton Easter Cookie Cutters. The winner will receive two sets of 3 cutters each, e.g. you end up with six cookie cutters.

The Prize!

Rules:

– The contest will run from Sunday, March 11th, 2012 until Sunday, March 18th, 2012.

– The contest is open internationally and is not restricted to any country
– You must leave ONE comment underneath this post, telling me what you favourite Easter treat is
– You have a second chance of winning if you “like” my Facebook page and leave a separate comment here that you do
– The winner will be drawn at random by Random.org
– The winner will be announced on Monday, March 19th, 2012 on this blog
– The winner has 48 hours to contact me, if s/he fails to do so, another winner will be picked by Random.org
– Baking in Saskatoon is not responsible for lost mail

Disclaimer: Both cookie cutter sets where purchased by me and not provided by Wilton. I was not paid by Wilton for advertising for them or any sort of thing.

Good luck to all and thanks for stopping by!

Play Dough Cookies

It is March, which means ins some parts of the world spring is on its way. Well, here in lovely Saskatoon spring will have a later appearance, we still have snow everywhere. Actually, we had a snow storm the other day but we hope warm weather is on its way. If you don’t have the colours outside you should make sure you have them inside, on your plate, or in your hand for that matter. These lovely cookies are the perfect opportunity and so much fun to look at.

Brownies – Two Recipes

Chocolate!!!!

We were invited out to my husband’s parents to have Sunday lunch. My father-in-law was cooking and so I asked if I should make some dessert. He’s a dessert fan and rarely says no to such an offer. So I was wondering what I could make that I haven’t done yet. It quickly dawn on me that brownies would be perfect. I wanted to make some for a while now so I searched my recipe books.

Simple Meatballs and Mushroom Sauce

I know, I know, this is probably not the most original post. Meatballs are so common, so simple, so…everyone can make meatballs. Right? What can I say? This was my weekend “I am in the kitchen” project. Yes, boring, but I had no spark of genius this weekend to bake something amazing. I guess I am not one of those bloggers out there that bake every day. Wait! I know FOR SURE that I am not one of those bloggers. Anyway, for those cooking beginners amongst you, here is a simple recipe for some good meatballs.
